Emperor Jimmu

Emperor Jimmu

Emperor Jimmu, also known as Kamu-yamato Iware-biko no Mikoto, was Japan’s first emperor. He was born in the year 711 BCE to Tamayori-hime, an important goddess within Japanese mythology. However, he is is also believed to be the great-great-great-great grandson of the significantly more influential Sun Goddess, Amatersasu. According to the two early chronicles, the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki, it is stated that Jimmu swiftly rose to power, becoming the nation’s first emperor in the year 660 BCE as a result of his God-like status. He reigned for another 75 years until his death in 585 BCE at the old age of at the old age of 126. Today, his existence is heavily disputed by a significantly large number of historians, with the others believing that his story was greatly exaggerated. For this reason, he is often fit into the “legendary emperors” category.
