Emperor Akihito was the one-hundred and twenty-fifth emperor of Japan, born on the 23 December 1933 as the eldest son of Showa (Hirohito) and Empress Kojun in the Tokyo Imperial Palace. He was born a few years prior to World War II, as a result meaning that he was forced to evacuate Tokyo, instead residing in the small town of Nikko until 1945. In the year 1559, Akihito married Michiko Shoda, whom he had three kids with; Naruhito (the current Emperor); Fumihito and Sayako. Following the death of his father Hirohito in the year 1989, Akihito was crowned Emperor of Japan. He went on to rule for another thirty years, before being abdicated in the year 2019 as a result of his declining health.
